April 2014—April 26 is World Intellectual Property Day, an annual event linking intellectual property (IP), creativity and economic growth. In 2014, the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) is celebrating movies with the theme: Movies – A Global Passion.

This year's theme at the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is Movies: Over 100 Years of Innovations and Branding. From grainy, black and white silent films viewed in a theatre to HD movies played on a smartphone, the movie industry has undergone immense technical advancements over the past 100 years.
