Who owns the copyright in a work?

Generally, the owner of the copyright is:

• the author of the work;
• the employer of the author if the work was created in the course of employment, unless there is an agreement to the contrary; or
• any other person (individual or other legal entity) that has obtained ownership through a transfer of ownership such as an assignment.
