CIPO and the Instituto Nacional da PI (INPI) from Brazil signed a Memorandum of Understanding
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and the Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI) from Brazil have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to increase cooperation between the Offices. Within this MoU, the parties undertake to exchange information on new developments in their national IP systems; exchange experiences on general management, including human resources, finances and quality control; exchange experiences and knowledge on providing technical information for users and the stakeholder community; and explore joint initiatives with the view to stimulate discussion at multilateral meetings on the intellectual property system, specifically in patents and trademarks. The MoU came into effect on February 11, 2011 and will be in force for a 5 years period.
The partnership has already had several positive results such as a meeting between Brazilian and Canadian experts in September 2010, the exchange of information on regional agreements and cooperation in multilaral meetings.
