Filing a copyright application (for literary, artistic, dramatic and/or musical works)

The following are instructions for filing a copyright application:


How to access this form

The copyright application form is located on a secure server on the Strategis site. You must create a username and password with Strategis and then log on to the form.

Preparing your application

It's a good idea to become familiar with the documents The Application Process and A Guide to Copyrights prior to completing the form.

Filing

  1. Complete the application.
    Do not send a copy of your work with the application. The Copyright Office does not review or assess works, nor does it verify whether or not the title has already been used.
  2. Review the application.
    Once correct and complete, it is vital to print or save the completed application form for future reference.
  3. Payment
    Payment can be made using:
    • American Express, MasterCard, or VISA
    • CIPO Deposit Account - This is not a debit card account.  Please do not include any bank account information on the application. Contact the Client Service Centre for more information.
