Implementation of WIPO Standard ST.26 Patent Data Format: Biological Sequence Listings ( )

The full historical collection of records of biological sequence listings (BSLs) from patent applications filed with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) was updated on our cloud and our data portal IP Horizons. This refresh of the full historical collection was produced on 2020-12.

As of , all applications filed on or after this date must comply with the new WIPO ST.26 format. CIPO and WIPO will not convert BSL applications filed before from the ST.25 format to the ST.26 format as BSLs are provided by the applicant and not altered. CIPO understands that this change may cause additional work on your end however, as an Intellectual Property Office (IPO), we must comply with the Standards and Policies set forth by WIPO.

Collections including applications filed before will contain BSL products in ST.25 and may contain BSL products in ST.26 format. All applications filed on or after containing BSLs will be in ST.26 format and data for these applications will be disseminated solely in the new ST.26 format. CIPO will support both the ST.25 and ST.26 formats for an undetermined period of time, by disseminating both formats in parallel. Clients will be informed when the ST.25 format will be decommissioned.

Status update for industrial design data ( )

Read more about industrial design status

With the adherence to the Hague Agreement, CIPO adopted the term "expired" for what was previously known as the status "public domain" in the Canadian industrial designs database. The same change of term is required in the bulk industrial design xml collection. All instances of the status "public domain" in the historical collection and the weekly updates will be changed to "expired" on March 15, 2019.

We ask that all clients replace the term "public domain" with the term "expired" in their own database. By making this change by March 15, 2019, you will ensure ongoing alignment with industrial design updates.
