Copyright – Request certificate of correction instructions

Step 1 – Registration

  1. You must enter the Copyright Registration number for the correction you are requesting
  2. You must enter the details of the Correction you are requesting. You should be specific in the information you are entering
  3. Once both mandatory fields (* Required) are completed, click on the Next button

Note: If you have not entered information in one of the fields, the system will not allow you to proceed to the next step and you will see an error message.

Once you proceed to the next step you will notice that on the right hand side navigation box the completed step will now have a green checkmark to confirm that this step has been completed.

You will also note that the step you are currently in will be white and you can toggle between a green completed stage and the current stage you are in should you need to make changes in a previous step.

Step 2 – Requester

  1. You must confirm if the request is being made on behalf of an individual or a corporation. Your selection will generate a different selection of mandatory fields
  2. You must enter all of the mandatory fields identified with (* Required)
  3. Once you have entered a country and you start to type in the "Address line 1" field, a list of possible addresses will start to appear to match your entry , you can select your address directly from that list or you may continue to manually enter your complete address
  4. Once all of the mandatory fields have been entered, click on the Next button
  5. If you wish to correct some information you must click on the Previous button or select the appropriate stage in the right navigation bar

Step 3 – Fees

  1. You must select one of the two choices:
    1. Error made by the Copyright Office - The correct information was provided at the time of filing and the error appearing on the certificate was made by the office. There is no charge for the issuance of the certificate of correction for this type of error
    2. Error made by the client - The clerical error was made by the client at time of filing. Please note that only errors of clerical nature will be accepted by the office. There will be a $63 charge to issue to the certificate of correction for this type of error
  2. Once all of the mandatory fields have been entered, click on the Next button
  3. If you wish to correct some information you must click on the Previous button or select the appropriate stage in the right navigation bar

Step 4 – Review

  1. You must review all of the information entered prior to proceeding to payment or submitting to the Copyright Office
  2. You must check off the required field of the declaration for the accuracy of the information
  3. If you wish to correct some information you must click on the Previous button or select the appropriate stage in the right navigation bar
  4. If you are required to make a payment you must click on the Proceed to payment button:
    1. You may pay by Credit Card. This will direct you to the Government of Canada Credit Card Payment Site. This is a secure site for the processing of all credit card payments
    2. You may also pay by CIPO Deposit account. You must have a registered CIPO Deposit Account linked to your login account prior to proceeding with the payment. For more information, consult the different methods of payment accepted by CIPO

    Note: upon successful completion of payment the request will be forwarded automatically to the Copyright Office for processing.

  5. If no payment is required and no changes are needed you must select the Submit button to submit your request to the office. Once you click the Submit button, your request will be forwarded to the Copyright Office for processing
  6. You can also save your review document locally by selecting the Save as button or Print a copy for your records
