How to Make a Payment

Online services/e-payment

To make online payments, you can pay by credit card or your CIPO deposit account.

Create or access your My Canada Business Account

To make online payments, you need a My Canada Business Account.

Don't have an account? Visit the login page and follow the steps to create an account.

Once you’ve created your account, email our Incoming Correspondence Unit to link your CIPO username to your online deposit account. Your request must include the following information:

  • your name and/or firm’s name
  • your address and/or firm’s address
  • your CIPO deposit account number
  • your CIPO username

To find out your CIPO username, log in to any CIPO online service. Once you’ve logged in, your CIPO username will be shown at the top of the page where it says "Signed in as [username]."

Types of payments you can make

E-payment tips

  • Do not use your browser’s “Back” button; you could overwrite your submission.
  • Your transaction will be sent to CIPO after you complete the payment process.
  • Once you are on the secure payment screen, you have 15 minutes to finish the payment.
  • Be sure to have your credit card ready before you start the process.
  • Print a record of your transaction using the “Print Page” button. Your browser’s print function will not work during the session.
  • You will briefly leave the CIPO website to make your credit card payment. When you add your credit card number, do not add any spaces or dashes. The “Complete Order” button will take you back to the CIPO website.
  • For new applications to the Trademarks Branch, the official filing date of your request is the date the Trademarks Branch gets your electronic application and payment. We will send you an office acknowledgement notice and a client proof sheet soon after you send your application.
  • For other applications, if you meet all requirements, the official receipt date will be the date that our server gets your electronic application. You can find detailed information about the application process for each type of IP through CIPO’s main page.
  • Electronic submissions are considered originals. Do not send a duplicate copy.

Fax

You can pay by fax: 819-953-CIPO (2476) or 819-953-OPIC (6742).

Note: Do not submit a hard copy by mail because this could result in you making two payments.
